My DVD player is f***ed!

This is very frustrating. Instead of spending the night in front of the telly I went back to my computer and started to fiddle around with this sketch for a while. I had the idea for this a couple of years ago when I saw a building designed by a guy called Clorindo Testa. It turned out to be a little foggy...

Flying Saucer
A very welcome distraction
I spend the last 10 weeks rendering architectural illustrations and have to say that I am growing tired of it. Pictures with six and more vanishing points can be quite exhausting. Then all of a sudden I got a call to design this prop. Although my current job doesn't allow me to do much work on the side I decided to give it a try on Sunday afternoon. A couple of hours later I sent it off to the client. The answer: rejected! - good for me - that's why I can post it here :-)

Ancient creatures
A couple of years ago we were preping a project for Fox Television and spent a lot of time on research about extinct animals. This one - a member of the sabertooth family - is called "Homotherium" and lived among us until 10.000 years ago. There weren't many illustrations to find about this creature so we had to come up with our own version of it. Starting with the skeleton we kept adding muscles and skin, furs and colors. Below you see one of the final concepts and a maquette sculpted by Gary Pollard.

Thumbnails...
...I did to illustrate the stunt choreography for a roof top fighting sequence. The timing is not right though - one pic a sec.

It's been a while...
...since I last did some life drawing. Didn't remember it was that difficult! I have never been that type of guy drawing in a sketchbook. Maybe because I would tear out every drawing I don't like and in the end there wouldn't be a single page left. Here are some of my earlier drawings way back when I was still working in animation. We used to do poses no longer than 1-3 minutes which is actually enough time to catch the essence of the movement.

Game Players

Recently I seriously started working for the game industry. I already had some experience with smaller companies a couple of years ago when suddenly the opportunity came up to design a game from scratch. Here is a character design I did for the first presentation. (of course I had Cunningham's Animatronics from the Björk video in mind when I started working on these) more on: http://www.peterpopken.com
