Three Musketeers
A few illustrations for the Film 'Three Musketeers'. More sample images are on my website.
Although I doubt that Leonardo would have designed an airship the way it is shown below, the idea behind it isn't as far-fetched as one would assume...
In 1783 the Montgolfier brothers had made a public demonstration of a hot air balloon in order to establish their claim to its invention. King Louis XVI proposed to launch two criminals, but it is most likely that the inventors decided to send 3 living beings, not the Musketeers :) but a sheep, a duck, and a rooster. The flight lasted 8 minutes, covered two miles, and obtained an altitude of about 1,500 feet.

Wickie II
Wickie is a life-action version of the japanese cartoon from the seventies. I came in when the film was already shot to add some designs for digital sets. For comparison I posted the final shots as they appear in the film.

Your Highness again
A very busy weekend in Belfast, back in 2009. Within 2 days I had to illustrate costumes of all the main characters. It is funny how time pressure makes you think of more efficient ways to render detail. Some of the default brushes in photoshop create interesting patterns when you mess around with the spacing in the brushes window.
I posted the detail above that explains the technique very well.
It really starts working once you zoom out.

Unknown Identity
There are two things I really find difficult when doing interiors. First, finding the right angle that shows as much as possible of the set without causing too much distortion. The other is lighting the entire room and providing the right mood for the scene.
Regarding the perspective I use 'vanishing-point' in the photoshop filter menu. A very useful application and I am always surprised how few people actually know about it. All illustrations were done about a year ago for a film called 'Unknown Identity' and there are more samples on my website if you are interested.
