Here are more sketches for Hugo, following George Méliès through the streets of Paris. During my research I came across the films of French director René Clair and must have been so impressed that all my illustration ended up in black and white only. Strangely, everyone seemed to be okay with it.
Funny enough, it is a b/w silent movie that takes a well deserved win at the Oscars®. Hugo gets credit for the Best Achievement in Art Direction and is awarded for Excellence in Production Design by the Art Directors Guild.



King Louis XVI proposed to launch two criminals, but it is most likely that the inventors decided to send 3 living beings, not the Musketeers :) but a sheep, a duck, and a rooster. The flight lasted 8 minutes, covered two miles, and obtained an altitude of about 1,500 feet.
